Dear Colleagues,

We continue to introduce the plenary speakers of the 7th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Current Issues in Linguistics and Professional Language Teaching: Trends and Prospects", which will be held at Bauman Moscow State Technical University.

The plenary session will feature Tatyana Tikhonovna Cherkashina, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Russian Language at Kosygin Russian State University, and Academician of the Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences and Arts (PANI).

Plenary Presentation

"Reading Choices of the Post-Truth Generation"

Tatyana Tikhonovna Cherkashina, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Russian Language at Kosygin Russian State University

The presentation will explore the transformation of young people's reading preferences in the context of post-truth culture, where subjective judgments and emotional responses to information often outweigh objective facts. Particular attention will be paid to the influence of the digital information environment on young people's attitudes toward literature and reading.

The speaker will examine changes in the contemporary reading landscape, including the rejection of a single literary canon, the blurring of boundaries between classical and popular literature, and the emergence of new ways of engaging with literary works.

The presentation will analyze how modern media, video games, and television series influence reading preferences and compete with traditional forms of reading. At the same time, special emphasis will be placed on the unique role of literature in developing critical thinking, imagination, and the ability to understand and interpret the world.

A separate part of the presentation will focus on the phenomenon of reader self-expression. Modern readers are increasingly becoming active participants in interpreting literary works, discussing and reinterpreting plots, and creating their own versions of literary narratives. The speaker will introduce different types of reading behavior and explore new forms of engagement with literature, including literary quest tourism and role-playing games.

Another important topic will be the changing nature of how books are experienced, from thoughtful reading and textual analysis to various forms of participation in literary culture. The speaker will address the question of how to preserve the value of books in an era of information overload and the growing influence of digital technologies.

The presentation will conclude with a discussion of developing reading culture and cognitive culture, strengthening critical information literacy, and promoting informed choices of literature. Particular attention will be paid to the role of education in maintaining an interest in reading and shaping the values of the younger generation.

We invite teachers, researchers, and specialists in linguistics, language teaching methodology, and literary education to participate in the conference and contribute to discussions on current issues in contemporary reading culture.
